Ryder adds vehicles to Mark Murphy & Partner fridge fleet

Ryder has added five 3.5 tonne Mercedes-Benz Sprinter fridge vans, and a DAF LF 12 tonne truck to the refrigerated fleet of Mark Murphy & Partner Ltd, one of Scotland’s leading fresh produce distributors. These replacement vehicles follow the delivery of three 7.5 tonners and eleven 3.5 tonne fridge vans, all supplied on contract hire from Ryder.

“We deliver six days a week with a back-up Sunday service to Edinburgh City centre,” comments Mark Murphy, managing director. “Some of our vehicles depart from our Newbridge depot as early as 1:00 a.m. heading for our depots in Pitlochry and Aberdeen, so it’s essential that our fleet is always available and fit for purpose.”

“In addition to supplying premium quality fruit and vegetables, dairy products, and fine foods to a customer base ranging from coffee shops, fine dining restaurants, hotels, universities, hospitals, and shipping companies, we supply many of Scotland’s most prestigious events such as The Ryder Cup and The Edinburgh Festival, and, we also supplied produce for the Commonwealth Games.”

“We previously owned our vehicles, but breakdowns, repairs, and vehicle damage meant that we always seemed to have vehicles unavailable for work. We spoke to a number of other companies in our industry and they confirmed that Ryder was the most reliable and professional of all vehicle suppliers in Scotland, so we then started replacing our fleet last year with vehicles on contract hire from Ryder.”

“Being close to the Ryder depot in Newbridge enables our vehicles to be serviced overnight, with Ryder collecting and delivering them back ready for work the next morning. Another benefit is that with fixed costs our budgeting is easier so we can spend more management time focusing on our core business.”

Robin White, sales and marketing director for Ryder, adds, “Mark Murphy & Partner Ltd is typical of an increasing number of Scottish companies who are taking advantage of the cost, maintenance and service benefits that the Ryder contract hire packages can provide. With the Mark Murphy fleet now comprising of 50% Ryder vehicles, the company has the transport resources it needs to help deliver its business expansion plans.”
