Schmitz Cargobull Opens New Production Plant in Turkey
Flexible production facilities for better access to market
October 2017 – At the beginning of October Schmitz Cargobull celebrated the official opening of its new production plant in Adapazari, Turkey. The multi-production plant (MPP) will be used to assemble both curtainsiders and box bodies. Plans are also in place to add another assembly line for tipper trailers. All quality standards in place for Schmitz Cargobull’s popular product lines have been adopted and implemented at the new factory. Production capacities in Adapazari can be scaled for flexibility. Initially it will be able to handle up to 3,400 units per year.
The production plant in Adapazari highlights the significance of the Turkish market for Schmitz Cargobull. Despite heavy volatility, the overall market for new trailers exceeds 20,000 units per year, around half of which fall into Schmitz Cargobull’s product range. In this field, Schmitz Cargobull is aiming to achieve a share of the Turkish market equivalent to its European average of around 30%.
The trailers will be assembled in cutting-edge production lines in accordance with Schmitz Cargobull’s established production system. Pre-assembled components will be supplied from the plants in Germany and then installed at the Adapazari plant. The number of local components used will be increased gradually once the strict quality requirements have been met. The number one priority is to ensure that products from Adapazari meet exactly the same level of quality as those from the company’s main plants. This strategy has been adopted from the Zaragoza plant, which successfully established the required level of quality many years ago. Staff from Adapazari have undergone training at the German production sites over recent months, enabling them to learn all about the various workflows.
The new Schmitz Cargobull production plant is the latest addition to the company’s ten production sites in Europe and China. The factory in Adapazari is a further step towards the realignment of corporate activities in Turkey. Just last year, Schmitz Cargobull took over imports from its long-serving partner ENKA and established Schmitz Cargobull Treyler Turkey, a separate subsidiary for direct sales based on the European model.
This allows Schmitz Cargobull to provide Turkish customers with a wide range of reliable and innovative transport solutions with services to match, custom-designed financial services, comprehensive 24/7 spare parts supply, a proven network of service partners, telematics solutions and used vehicle sales. Applying the motto ‘One-Stop Shopping’, the company provides unique service packages for any application and a central contact partner for all trailer enquiries.
