Scotbeef Purchases Blast Freezer From Blue Cube Portable Cold Stores

In a move to boost freezer capacity at its modern plant in Glasgow, leading UK fresh meat processing company, Scotbeef has purchased a BFT40 portable blast freezer from Blue Cube Portable Cold Stores – part of The Turner Group – after renting the unit for several years.

Scotbeef is one of the largest privately owned fresh meat companies in the UK. It is fast becoming category leaders in fresh beef and lamb products and remains at the forefront of raw beef and lamb across the UK retail market. Scotbeef is a wholly owned subsidiary of J W Galloway Ltd – a privately owned company under the direction of Robbie Galloway CEO.

Located in the plant’s yard, the 19 pallet capacity blast freezer unit is being used by Scotbeef to rapidly chill sous vide beef and pork products from +60⁰C down to -35⁰C.

Blue Cube’s blast freezers are available with remote temperature monitoring option which allows the customer to monitor the unit’s performance and track temperature movements.

It offers a usable space of 26.40m² with a refrigeration duty of 62kw. It incorporates the latest screw compressor for greater efficiencies at low temperatures and reduced running costs.

Paul Marshall from Scotbeef commented: “We required extra freezer capacity but didn’t have the space to expand our existing cold storage. Renting the blast freezer from Blue Cube initially meant less disruption to the plant and made perfect business sense in terms of cash flow. It also allowed us to be more flexible whilst ensuring production efficiencies.

“We decided to purchase the unit to reduce costs going forward plus we were confident it would continue to deliver on performance and meet our on-going capacity requirements. Overall we’re happy with the service provided by Blue Cube and would happily recommend them to other food processors,” Paul concludes.

Blue Cube’s blast freezers offer a variety of key features including LED lighting fitted in the ceiling coving providing 300 lux of light, impact step protectors, lockable doors and locking door bars as standard. Emergency lighting, externally mounted audible and visible man trap and temperature alarms provide all the necessary safety functions. Optional extras such as side doors, ramps, dock level platforms and racking are also available.
